A Year of Magic: Happy Birthday Quills and Cosmos!
One year ago, I hit "publish" on a dream. Here's what's happened since.

Hello gentles all!
Exactly one year ago today, I launched Quills and Cosmos Press. The year has been a whirlwind of firsts, and we’ve relished every moment. Inspired by the thought that everyone should be able to see themselves as the main character, with the aim to help minority voices be heard in the sci-fi/fantasy spaces, we’ve built quite a little business. Here’s the rundown of our last year.
We signed our first book, The Ice Moves for No One, by Arlo Z. Graves, late last summer. Since then, we’ve gone through dev & line edits, cover creation, copyediting, and are now in the midst of final proofing. AND we’re launching a Kickstarter soon, to facilitate hardcovers, as well as discounted paperbacks & ebooks. (Sign up to be notified when we go live!)

Then, at the very, very end of December 2024, we signed our second author, Molly Haniszewski, with her book, Beyond the Border Forest. We’ve just finished dev & line edits on that one, and are about to start copy editing and cover creation. (Such fun!) This book will be available in Fall 2025.
In January, we opened again for submissions and received a wealth of riches. From that grouping, we’ve signed 2 new authors!
Bethany Tap and her book, When Everything Was Fresh and Green, have been a welcome addition to the Q&C family. Due to Bethany’s debut coming out in November from another small press, we’re holding off on her book with us until the second quarter of 2026. Looking forward to diving into this great story!
Our newest sign-on is Wren Ryer, and her book The Crow’s Parlor. I’m in the midst of writing the developmental edit letter for this beauty of a novel, which should come out early 2026.
With one more author waiting in the wings, and a plethora of submissions to still read from our last open call, we’re looking forward to even more amazing things.
Through all this, we’ve been building our little community of readers, writers, geeks, and dreamers. Find us on most social media under @quillsandcosmos; we’d love to welcome you! Thank you to everyone who has read a post, supported a book, cheered on an author, or just quietly believed in what we’re doing. Seriously, thank you.
Year two is shaping up to be even bigger. More books, more voices, more stories where everyone gets to be the hero.
Thanks for joining us in the cosmos.
With gratitude,
Meagan
